Home Jobs – what are they and where can I find them?

Posted by Offer Tsuriel on September 12, 2009

Home jobs can be divided to number of categories. Each category requires it’s own capabilities and not everyone can deal with every home job at the same time.

What are the common traits of all home jobs?

    • You must have a personal computer installed in your home.
    • Fast internet connection.
    • Basic skills in operating internet browser and word processor software.
    • At least 8 hours of free time to dedicate to your home job.
    • A lot of patience.

These are only few basic tools and qualities you must have before you even consider in getting into this kind of business.

So, before I present you with the top sources for the home jobs I would like to introduce you with some of the examples of what you can do at home and make money of it:

    1. Paid surveys – take on-line surveys from companies that interested in your opinion and get paid for each survey you complete.
    2. Data entry – includes updating customer lists, members databases with new information collected from various sources.
    3. Secret shoppers – this category has two different aspects. First, you go to different stores and must have some kind of dialog with their assistant about a particular product, record his/her answers and give your own opinion about the service you got in this store. Second, you receive a long list of products, go to particular store and record their prices, usually for competitor usage.
    4. Focus groups – kind of on-line research where group are asked for their opinion about a particular product, service, advertisement, idea or packaging and the group must have a discussion in which all members can communicate with each other.
    5. Transcription - this job performed usually for lowers and law related companies who send you a recording of conversation and you need to convert it to written document. Sometimes they ask you to summarize it and give the topics of this conversation. This job requires a special skills like strong grasp of English grammar, punctuation, and vocabulary.

There are many other home job categories like clerical jobs, customer service, telemarketing, website reviews, web searchers all of which have one common quality: you don;t actually need any prior knowledge to start earning money with them.

But, be aware of SCAMS and never, never pay to get hired or get listed in to one of these jobs. For my personal opinion, the paid surveys category is the easiest to deal with and you get instant pay for your time.

If you decided to go with the paid surveys category I would like to give you some tips on how  to organize your work in order to track your earnings:

    • Use an Excel sheet or notebook to record the companies that actually paid you for your effort.
    • Make a black list of not paying companies that ignored your payment request.
    • Make a tracking list of surveys you take every day and how much money you should receive for each survey. Compare this list with the actual payment you received.
    • Build a list of companies that pay you more for less survey pages you complete. Try to get more surveys from them.
    • Do not tempt to try more and more home job opportunities. If you think you will get more money somewhere else you wrong. Concentrate on one category and eventually you will become an expert in that area and will be able to earn much more from it.

    Good Luck,
    Offer
