Why not to start your own article website instead of writing for someone else?

Recently I was asked on one of the work-from-home forums: ” How much can you earn from writing articles?”

My answer was:” At Bukisa you get about $4 for every 1000 views of ALL of your articles (not only one) so as more articles you publish, more money you get. Also, ArticleIncome.com pays you 50% from every AdSence income they have from your article. I publish on both of them.

Then I got this responce from one of the members named mountainmom5:

My stars! Why not have a website of your OWN and write articles directing traffic to that – You will make way more than $4 in most cases – and what many people don’t realize is that it is not that easy to write an article that gets more than a few hundred hits a month, unless you know what you are doing….. and if you happen to know what you are doing I can not imagine writing good keyword articles for someone for that kind of money.

What mountainmom5 don’t understand that in addition to right article writing, somone has to find your article and read it. There are 2 ways to accomplish it:

 

1. Build your own site, publish interesting articles on it, get traffik and earn from placing ads on your site. This way of publishing your articles is very difficult to achieve, because in addition to writing your own article you need to maintain your own site. Maintaining site includes web-mastering, domain purchase, hosting purchase (unless you use some of the free offers on the Internet like “blogger” which is very uncomfortable to fit to your needs), promoting your site. Finally, the first year or so your site will be in the “sand box” of Google and other search engines, and after that you will see some good traffic, say 100 unique visitor every day, so just for writing articles, I don’t think you need your own site or some special knowledge, except writing it.
2. On the other hand, you can use the services of sites like Bukisa and ArticleIncome.com. The huge advantage of these sites is that they ALREADY HAVE big traffic coming to them and they can be found in excellent places in the search engine results, so if your article is interesting to read he will get more chances to be read by others, and yor chance to earn from it will be increase accordingly. In addition, all you need to know is hoe to write an interesting  article, you don’t have to run your own site for that.
